The Metropolitan Museum of Art, commonly referred to as the Met, is one of the world's largest and most renowned art museums. The Met's main building is located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The museum has 17 curatorial departments. The Met was designed by architects Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wrey Mould. The museum has a significant collection of medieval art, including works from the Byzantine Empire and the Renaissance period, as well as a collection of modern and contemporary art, including works by living artists.
